Melilotus albus Medik. / Syn. Melilotus alba Medik., it is an annual herb, generally erect, up 10 I (-2) m high, glabrous. Leaves trifoliolale, petiolate, stipulate, stipules 3-10 mm long, linear-subulate, entire, leaflets usually oblong or obovate to linear or elliptic, 10-30 x 5-15 mm, sparsely dentate. Racemes 3-5 cm long, pediculate, becoming lax and elongated, up to 15 cm in fruit. Flowers 3.5-4.5 mm long, white, pedicellate, becoming deflexed in fruit. Calyx 2-2.5 mm long, teeth half as long as tube. Corolla 3.5-4.5 (-5) mm long, wings and keel sub equal, shorter than standard. Pods 3-4 x c. 2 mm. sub compressed, irregularly reticulate-rugose, glabrous. ± ellipsoidal, with a short curved beak at apex, brownish-black when ripe. 1-2-seed. Seed 2-2.5 x 1.5 mm. yellow-brownish, Smooth or warty. Life Form: Th, Flowering in: Apr-Oct, Vern:————–, Phytochoria: Cosm, The native range of this species is Europe to China, N. Africa to Myanmar, Ethiopia to S. Africa. Notes: Wild in Libya.
