Moraea sisyrinchium (L.) Ker Gawl. / Homotypic Synonyms: Gynandriris sisyrinchium (L.) Parl., Iris sisyrinchium L., // Heterotypic Synonyms: Iris maricoides Regel, it is a perennial, glabrous herb with subglobose bulb, 1.5-3 cm across, covered by brown fibrous scales. Roots fibrous. Stem (scape) slender. wavy, up to 45 cm tall. Leaves linear-fakate, longer than scape, 15-70cm 1I 1.5-6 mm, canaliculated, convolute, flexuosc, spreading to ascending. Spathe lanceolate, 5-7 cm long, papery, greenish, acuminate at the base. Flowers in fascicles of 2-4 together, blue-violet with white center. Perianth segments 2-3 cm long, very variable in size. Ovary ± sessile, shorter than the slender perianth tube, style fused with stamens in a column. Stamen included anthers linear c. 6 mm long, filaments filiform 8-10 mm long. Capsule oblong-linear, 20-30 x c. 4 mm, included in spathe. Seeds obovate, 1.5-2 mm long, brown, rugose. Life Form: G, Flowering in: Feb-Apr, Vern: Sawsan, Phytochoria: MED+SA+IT, The native range of this species is Medit. to W. Himalaya and Arabian Peninsula. Notes: Wild in Libya.
