Ballota nigra L., it is a perennial plant up to 50-80 (120) cm tall, pubescent to hirsute or with papillae and nonshining glands or glabrescent. Leaves petiole up to 5 cm, lower cauline leaves 2-7 x 1.5-5 cm, ovate, all but the uppermost longer than whorls. Whorls many flowered, commencing low down, distant, somewhat peduncled, bracts linear subulate 1/2 to 2/3 as long as the calyx. Calyx strongly veined and grooved, 9-13 mm long, lobes (3) 4-6.5 mm, erect awned, awn 1.5-3 mm, teeth ± equal, patent, triangular, 1/5 as long as tube, tapering into a long prickle. Corolla 10-15 mm long, pink, lilac or white, tube exserted.  Life Form: Ch,   Flowering in:———–,   Vern:————-,   Phytochoria: ES+MED, The native range of this species is Macaronesia, Europe to Medit.  Notes: Wild in Libya.
