Erodium gruinum (L.) L’Hér,  it is an annual or biennial herb, ascending to erect up to 30 (-50) cm tall, sparsely relrorsc or patent hairy to glabrescent,  with thick grooved shoots. Leaves radical and cauline, simple, rarely compound with up to 10 (-12) cm long, retrorse hairy, grooved petiole, lamina ovate to ovate-lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate. (1.5-) 3-10 (-12) x (0.5-) 1-5 (-6) cm. appressed hairy to glabrescent, radical leaves unlobed and crenate-dentate or pinnatipartite or pinnatisect into mostly 3(-5) crenate-dentate, triangular-ovate to ovate-oblong segments, the terminal segment largest, with 3-5 lobes. Cauline leaves short petioled, often more deeply pinnatisect, acutely toothed, sometimes with a pair of almost free leaflets at base, stipules lanceolate-ovate to broadly ovate, 5-10 (-12) x 3-6 (-18) mm, whitish-brown, glabrous to ciliolate on margins, acute-acuminate. Inflorescence (1-) 3-6-flowered, peduncles mostly longer than the subtending leaves, hirsute to glabrous rarely subglandulose. Flowers large, violet or blue-violet. 2.5-3.5 cm across, pedicels c. 1 cm long, later elongated up to 10 times. Bracts several, akin to stipules, free, pubescent to marginally ciliolate. Sepals oblong to obovate-oblong or ovate-elliptic, 8-10 x 4-5 mm, enlarging in fruit up to 15-20 x 7-8 mm. white membranous between conspicuously thick, green, appressed hairy to glabrescent nerves, with c. 2-7 mm long mucro at the apex. Petals broadly obovate, 15-20 (-25) x 8-10(-12) mm, glabrous at the base, Fertile and sterile filaments glabrous. Mericarps brownish, 10-15 mm long, antrorsely brownish-white haired, apical pits deep, eglandular and pitied within, each with a wide furrow beneath beak 6 (-11) cm long, thick, reddish-barbate internally, with 2-4 coils near base.
