Ononis vaginalis Vahl., it is a dwarf undershrub, densely glandular-pubescent, up to 30 (-50) cm tall. erect or sub erect, with rigid stems, ± greenish, densely covered with imbricated sheating stipules below and often with small 1-3-foliolate leaves above; leaflets obovate-cuneate, denticulate, up to c. 13 x 6 mm, stipular-sheath up to c. 8 mm, lobes up to c. as long as the sheath, marginally denticulate, both sheath and lobe parallel veined, variable, peduncles longer than leaves. 1 flower 8-14 mm long. yellow with purplish veins on the glabrous standard, pediculate and shortly bracteates.  Calyx-teeth c. twice or more as long as the tube, densely glandular-viscid, linear-lanceolate, acute, somewhat spreading. Standard longer than wings and keel. Pods 10-18 x 2·3 (-3.5) mm, much exceeding the calyx, sub cylindrical-linear, mucronate, sericeous, 5-10-seeded. Seeds c. 2 mm in diam, minuteIy tuberculate, dark-brown.  Life Form: N.Ph,   Flowering in: Feb- Apr,   Vern:—————-,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Kriti, Tunisia to Syria.    Notes: Wild in Libya.
