Salvia chudaei Batt. & Trab.

Salvia chudaei Batt. & Trab., it is a suffruticose herb up to 30-60 cm tall. Stem much branched, eglandular and retrorse hairy, and oil globules, mostly below. Leaves simple, narrow linear 20-30 x c. 2 mm, leathery undulate crenate, revolute, on both surfaces with very short, simple eglandular hairs and numerous oil globules, sessile or sub sessile. Verticils up to 8. c. 4- flowered, up to 13 mm apart below, many and close above. Floral leaves ovate, slightly acuminate, c. 3 x 0.7 mm, bracts absent, pedicels up to 1.5 mm. Calyx ovate-campanulate, up to 4 mm, accrescent in fruit up to c. 6 mm, c. 14 veined, with a very dense indumentum of long spreading eglandular hairs, shorter round calyx teeth and oil globules. Upper lip with 3 subs equal teeth, c. 0.7 mm, lower lip with two 2 mm long, acuminate teeth. Corolla violet-blue to deep purple, c. 7 mm. Nullets black, trigonous, c. 2 x 1 mm.  Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Mar-Apr,   Vern:—————,   Phytochoria: SA, The native range of this species is Central Algeria, N. Chad.   Notes: Wild in Libya.
