Salvia officinalis L., it is a perennial shrub up to c. 80 cm tall. Stem quadrangular, white wooly. Leaves oblong, 3.5-5.5 x 0.5·1.5 cm, rounded or narrowed into a 1.5-2.5 cm long petiole, entire, somewhat crumpled; lower ones pubescent on both sides or only beneath; bracts ovate, slender-pointed, sessile. Flowers pale blue or violet blue, in a ± simple raceme, with few 10-20-flowered verticils and 2.5-3 mm long pediccls. Calyx 6 mm long, campanulate, densely hairy, and petaloid. Corolla c. 15 mm long, upper lip densely multicellular hairy above, lower lip with 2 thick white bands. Stamens and style exserted. Style with multicellular hairs near the apex and usually deeply bilobed. Nutlets c. 2 x 1 mm, oblong, ± grey, mottled.  Life Form: Ch,   Flowering in: Ch,   Vern:———-,   Phytochoria: ES+MED ES+MED, The native range of this species is SW. Germany to S. Europe.  Notes: Wild in Libya, Introduced in Libya, unspecified medicinal. The species was mentioned as a cultivated plant in the Libyan Flora Encyclopedia… It was later recorded in natural areas, so perhaps it is a wild plant. ???
