Salvia spinosa L.

Salvia spinosa L., it is a perennial herb, up to 80 cm tall. Stem much branched above, quadrangular with glandular and eglandular hairs, dense and more glandular above. Leaves simple, ovate, upper leaves pale green somewhat clasping 3-4.5 x 2-3 cm, rounded or subcordate at base, appressed hairy; lower leaves 13 x 10 cm, with petioles 4-12 cm long. Inflorescence ± much branched; verticils c. 10, c. 2-6 flowered, lowermost c. 3 cm apart, approximately above. Floral leaves pale green, round-ovate, 25 x 18 mm, cordate at a base, acuminate; bracts pink. Pedicels 2-2.5 mm. Calyx tubular, 12-20 mm, accrescent, bi labiate, with triangular lanceolate, prickly-aristate teeth. Corolla white, 1.5 times as long as the calyx. Nutlets broad, ovate, trigonous, shining, brown, mottled, 3 x 2 mm.  Life Form: H,   Flowering in: Apr-May,   Vern:————–,   Phytochoria: SA+IT, The native range of this species is N. Africa to Central Asia and NW. Afghanistan.  Notes: Wild in Libya, in sandy ground in sandy ground.
