Lythrum junceum Banks & Sol., it is a perennial plant, up 20 to 50 cm, glabrous, with stems lying down and radiating at the base, then ascending or diffuse. Leaves elliptical or oblong-lanceolate rounded at the base, sessile, most alternate. Flowers 1-1.5 cm across, heterostylous, solitary, sub sessile, hypanthium cylindrical to obconical, 5-7 (-9) x c. 2 mm, 10-12 nerved, occasionally with red or purple spots in the middle. Accessary lobes 6, usually deltoid, acute, 0.7 x 0.5 mm. Sepals 6, somewhat shorter than the accessory lobes. Petals 6, inserted at the apex of hypanthium, up to 1 cm long, pink or purplish, obovate. Stamens 12-6 exserted and 6 included in the hypanthium, anthers yellow, broadly oblong, c. 0.5 mm long. Capsules cylindrical dark brown c. 5 x 1.5 mm. Seeds broadly ovoid c. 0.8 x 0.6 mm, gibbous or strongly convex on the dorsal surface, rugulose.  Life Form: H ,   Flowering in: Jun-Sep,   Vern:——————,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Macaronesia, Medit. to S.
