Lythrum salicaria L., it is an erect perennial, 40-100 (-150) cm tall, sub glabrous to densely pubescent; stem usually with 4-5 raised lines. Leaves mostly opposite in whorls of 3, ovate, lanceolate, acute to acuminate with cordate-amplexicual base, 6-60 x 2.5·15 mm. Spikes 9.45 cm long, flowers trimorphic in the axils of small bracts. Hypanthium 12-ribbed, 4.5 x 1.5-2 mm broadly tubular, accessory lobes 2.5-3 mm, subulate, longer and narrowrer than or equaling calyx teeth. Petals 5.5-8.5 (-10) mm long, obovate~spathulate or obovate-lanceolate, reddish purple. Stamens 12, some or all exserted, Ovary sub sessile, 2-5 mm long. Capsules 3-4 mm long, ovoid. Seeds obovate, tip ± membranous. Life Form: Ch , Flowering in:————–, Vern:————-, Phytochoria: S.Cosm, The native range of this species is Temp. Eurasia, NW. Africa, Ethiopia, Australia. Notes: Wild in Libya.
