Anacamptis coriophora (L.) R.M.Bateman, Pridgeon & M.W.Chase / Homotypic Synonyms: Orchis coriophora L., it is a tuberous geophyte, glabrous. erect herb., up to 35 cm. Tubers ovoid or subglobose, sub sessile or shortly stipitate. Stem cylindrical, glossy-smooth. Lower leaves 4.7, forming a rosette, largely linear, linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, apiculatc, attenuate at base, margin largely papillose, cauline leaves 3-4, reduced, acuminate and largely sheathing, Inflorescence cylindrical, densely multi-flowered. Bracts lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 1-nerved, membranaceous, acuminate. Flowers small, purple or dusky-purple with pink dots and vanilla odour. Sepals united up to middle, ovate-lanceolate, much longer than the petals, median lobe 1-nerved, laterals 2-nerved. Petals lanceolate or largely linear. 1-nerved, obtuse, acuminate. Labellum sessile, pendulous, trifid or half its length into unequal lobes, finely papillose on the upper face, greenish or purple with a pale median band and pink dots, midlobe oblong or oval, entire, lateral lobes rhombic or sub quadrangular, somewhat crenellate. Spur conical, obtuse, descendant, somewhat shorter than or equal to the labellum. Gynostemium erect. Anther obovate, obtuse, shortly apiculate, purple, stigma oblong. Ovary cylindrical, ± incurved, twisted. Capsule ovate-oblong. Sub trigonous.  Life Form: G,   Flowering in: Apr-Jun,   Vern:—————–,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Europe, Medit. to Iran.  Notes: Wild in Libya.
