Neotinea maculata (Desf.) Stearn , it is a tuberous geophyte, glabrous, green or glauscent herb, up to 32 cm. Tubers ovoid or oblong, sub sessile or ± stipitate. Lower leaves oblong or lanceolate, pointed and mucronate, ± attenuate at base, ± undulate, sometimes spoiled. Upper leaves 1-3, reduced and sheathing. Inflorescence densely multi flowered, cylindrical, sub unilateral. Bracts membranaceous, white or purplish. 1-nerved, lanceolate, acuminate.  Flowers small, glabrous, white or rose-coloured. Sepals ± coonivent into a hood; median sepal oblong, 1-nerved, shortly and obtusely acuminate, lateral sepals obliquely oval, acuminate. Petals linear, 1-nerved, obtuse, free or concrescent, flesh-coloured, with or without dark-purple lines. Labellum oblong, about as long as sepals, flesh-coloured, deeply trifid: lateral lobes linear, filiform, obtuse, shortly divergent; midlobe largely linear-lanceolate, obtuse, truncate and apiculate or shortly bilobed at apex. Spur one-fifth as long as ovary, slender-conical, obtuse. Gynostemium short. Ovary sessile, cylindrical-fusiform, twisted. Capsule oblong, membranaceous, dehiscing by 3 ribs.  Life Form: G,   Flowering in: Mar-May,   Vern:——————,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Macaronesia, NW.
