Ophrys bombyliflora Link , it is a tuberous geophyte, erect, glabrous herb, up to 7·29 cm. Tuber subglobose or ovoid, shortly or long stipitate. Basal leaves 4-8, forming a rosette, elliptic-lenticular to lanceolate, shortly attenuate at base, cauline leaves 1-2, reduced and sheathing. Inflorescence laxly 1-6-flowered, attaining about 8 cm in height. Bracts oblong or broadly lanceolate, ± pointed, distinctly green. Flowers small, spreading. Sepals sub equal, ovale or oval, oblong, minute, green with slightly violate base, 1-nerved, densely papillose, velutinlous inside. Labellum very much convex and isodiametric, nearly orbicular, trifid; lateral lobes linear-oblong, villous, midlobe much longer, bigibbous at base, hemispherical, owing to the strongly recuverved margins, brown, velvety, with the exception of a smooth strip from base to recurved lip. Gynostemium short with obtuse beak, rostellum obtuse, notched. Stigma semi-oval. Anther obovate, obtuse, reddish, pollinia yellow, with clearly yellow caudicles. Ovary cylindrical, glabrous. Capsul. Oblong, often stipitate and 6-ribbcd.   Life Form: G,   Flowering in: Feb-Apr,   Vern:——————-,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Canary Islands, Medit.   Notes: Wild in Libya.
