Ophrys holoserica (Burm.f.) Greuter , it is a tuberous geophyte, glabrous, erect, green or glauscent herb, up to 55 cm. Tuber globular. Basal leaves 2-4, forming a rosette, oval-oblong or oblong-lanceolate, pointed or apiculate. Inflorescence laxly few-flowered. Bracts spreading, distinctly green, lanceolate, ± apiculate. Flowers large, spreading. Sepals, sub equal, 3-nerved, ovate-oblong, pink or rose with green lines; median lobe oboval, shortly cucullate. Petals triangular, obtuse, 1-nerved, cordate-hastate at base, rose or pink, papillose-velutinous at the inner face. Labellum ± reflected, largely convex, sub orbicular or obovate-quadrate, longer than sepals, margin not folded back, bigibbous at base, truncate at apex and furnished near its middle with a glabrous, yellow, up curved appendix, and with the exception of obscure, glabrous spots and lines with yellow borders situated near its base, velvety tawny; lateral lobes indistinct; midlobe glabrous, ± recurved, usually trilobulate. Gynostemium spreading, tip acute; rostellum obtuse, apiculate; stigma concave, semi-oval. Anther spreading, oboval, apiculate. Ovary cylindrical, glabrous.   Life Form: G,   Flowering in: Apr-May,   Vern:———————,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is W. & Central Europe to Medit.  Notes: Wild in Libya.
