Ophrys lutea Cav., it is a tuberous geophyte, erect and glabrous herb. Tubers sub globular or ellipsoidal, shortly stipitate. Stem up to 6-40 cm long. Basal leaves 3-5, forming a rosette, oblong, pointed and apiculale, shortly contracted at the base, 3-9 x 1.2-2.7 cm. Cauline leaves 2-3, sheathing, limb reduced. Inflorescence laxly few-flowered. Bracts spreading-erect, oblong-lanceolate, pale-green, equaling to or shortly bigger than the ovary. Flowers spreading, erect. Speals oval, obtuse, 3-nerved, glabrous, yellowish-green, midlobe erect, laterals ± spreading. Lateral petals spreading, erect, linear, and obtuse or ± truncate, 1-nerved, greenish and finely papillose at the margin. Labellum largely oboval or oboval-sub orbicular, trilobed, midlobe cut into two bright lobes, bluish, glabrous, margin broader, dull-yellow, glabrous, the rest densely villous and brown; lateral lobes shortly and obliquely oval, round at apex, labellum excavated at the base. Gynostemium cylindrical, attaining up to mid-sepal; stigma subreniform; rostellum thick, obtuse. Anther obovate-oblong, yellowish, obtuse, or shortly incurved at apex. Ovary cylindrical, green. Capsule ovate-oblong. twisled.  Life Form: G,   Flowering in: Mar-Apr,   Vern:————,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is W. & Central Medit. to SW.
