Cistanche phelypaea (L.) Cout., it is a holoparasitic perennial, Herbaceous species lacking chlorophyll that lives by parasitizing other species of phanerogamous plants. Stems up to one meter high, robust, succulent, thickened at the base. Leaves numerous, located mostly at the base of the stem. Numerous flowers arranged in a dense spike. Bracts ovate-lanceolate. Calyx campanulate, with 5 equal, obtuse lobes. Bracteoles 2, attached to the calyx. Corolla up to 50 mm long, bright yellow, bilabiate, with 5 sub equal, patent lobes. Stamens included; anthers and base of hair filaments. Curved style towards the apex. Ovoid capsule. Seeds very variable in both shape and size, from c. 0.6–1.4 x 0.6–1 mm, dark gray, almost black. Reticulated surface, somewhat iridescent; perceptible and well-defined reticle under medium magnification (40x).  Life Form: Pa,   Flowering in: Mar-May,   Vern: Zanon,   Phytochoria: MED+SA+SZ , The native range of this species is Macaronesia, W. & Central Medit. to Sahara.   Notes: Wild in Libya, A variable species, parasiting on Tamarix , Calligonum  etc.
