Plantago ovata Forssk., it is a perennial subcaulescent herb, up to 5 (-10) cm tall. Leaves in rosettes, narrow linear, 2-5 (-10) cm x 1-2 (-3) mm, obtuse to acute, entire or remotely denticulate, 3-nerved, densely covered with appressed wooly hairs with bases slightly dilated. Scapes scarcely exceeding the leaves 1-9 cm; spikes dense, globular to ovate or oblong, 0.5-2.5 cm long. Bracts c. 3 mm long, rotund-ovate, glabrous, obtuse, midrib herbaceous, extending to tip, margin scarious; sometimes slightly hairy. Sepals ovate, carinate, c. 3 mm long, obtuse, scarious, glabrous, the anterior one usually pubescent. Corolla-tube 1.5-2 mm long, lobes ovate or orbicular, glabrous, 2.5·2.75 mm long. Stamens exserted up to 1 mm. Capsule c. 3 mm long. Seeds 2.  smooth, pale-brown,  2.2-2.3 x 1.15-1.25 x 0.7-0.75 mm long, mucilaginous, cymbiform (navicular), ± elliptical in outline; Dorsal face convex, ventral face canaliculated, with the thread located towards its central part. Seed surface somewhat shiny, amber, honeycomb-reticulated, with the pattern only perceptible under high magnification. Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Feb-May,   Vern: Halma,   Phytochoria: Pal, The native range of this species is SE. Spain, N. Africa to India and Somalia, SW. & S. Central U.S.A. to N. Mexico.   Notes: Wild in Libya, medicinal plant.
