Astragalus caprinus L. / Infraspecifics: Astragalus caprinus ssp. caprinus // Heterotypic Synonyms:  Astragalus caprinus ssp. lanigerus (Desf.) Maire, it is a perennial herb. stemless to short-stemmed with very close internodes, glabrous to villose with thick root stock and rosette of basal leaves. up to 25 cm long, stipules oblong, membranous, 10-.10 x 3-8 mm, glabrous to villose. Leaflets (10-) 13-16 (-20) pairs, oblong to ovate, (4-) 10-30 x (3-) 5-15 mm. rounded, retuse or subacute at apex. Inflorescences sessile to pedunculate, often forming a radical duster, peduncles up to 10 cm long, glabrous to villose with spreading hairs, racemes 4-14 (rarely more)-flowered, often dense, bracts narrowly lanceolate to almost filiform, glabrous or villose.  Flowers 20-30 mm long, yellow or yellow-greenish. turning reddish with age, pedicels  3 mm long. Calyx  15-17 x 4-6 mm, cylindrical, glabrous or thinly villose, teeth subequal, subulate, 6-7 mm long. Standard narrowly obovate, somewhat upcurved and emarginatc at apex. Pods shortly oblong to sub ovoid, 15-30 x 10-15 mm, oblong, ± stipitate. Sharply rostrate at apex, valves cartilaginous. pale-brown, glabrous or Ihinly villose, ± veined. Seeds reniform, compressed. 4-6 x 3-4 mm, brown, somelimes with purple blotches.  Life Form: H,   Flowering in: Feb-Apr,   Vern: Shacwit Erraie,   Phytochoria: SA+IT, The native range of this species is S. & E. Medit. to Iran and Arabian Peninsula.    Notes: Wild in Libya.
