Bellardia trixago (L.) All. / Homotypic Synonyms: Bartsia trixago L.,   it is a hemiparasitic annual herb, erect, 15-70 cm tall, glandular pubescent. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, sessile, sub-acute-obtuse, coarsely serrate, lobes obtuse, 1.5-7.0 (-9.0) x (1-) 2-2.5 cm, densely pubescent. Inflorescence a dense, terminal leafy spike. Flowers sessile, bracts foliaceous, but gradually decreasing in size from base to upward; uppermost ovate, cordate, entire, sub-acute-obtuse. Calyx 8-10 mm, teeth triangular, obtuse, c. 2 mm long. Corolla purple-white or yellow, rarely pure white; tube cylindrical; limb 2-lipped, upper lip slightly emarginated, lower lip slightly longer than upper, 3-lobed, lobes ± rounded. Stamens 4, anthers hairy, c. 1 mm long. Capsule sub globose, hairy as long as the calyx. Seeds many, oblong, kidney shaped, 0.7 mm long.  Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Mar-Apr,   Vern:——————,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Macaronesia, Medit. to Iran and W. Central Kenya, Cape Prov.  Notes: Wild in Libya.
