Halophila stipulacea (Forssk.) Asch. / Homotypic Synonyms: Zostera stipulacea Forssk., it is a rhizomatous hydrogeophyte, dioecious, marine perennial. Rhizome with 1-4 cm long internodes, scales elliptical or obovate, transparent or snow-white, folded. Leaves small, single paired, on short shoots, 1-1.5 cm long, sub sessile, blue green, 2.5-5 x 0.5-1cm, linear or oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, serrulate, 3-veined, with many ascending secondary veins joinling intramargimrl vein, glabrous or ± puberuIent. Male flower borne on pedicel elliptic, 1.5 cm long, perianth 4.5 x 1.5 mm, Stamens 3-4 mm -long. Female flower, ovary 3-4 mm, ovoid to ellipsoid, styles 3, filiform. Fruit 5 mm, ellipsoid with a long beak, 4-6 mm long. Seeds minute 30-40. Life Form: Hy, Flowering in: Jun-Sept, Vern:———-, Phytochoria: Pal, The native range of this species is Egypt to India and W. Indian Ocean. Notes: Wild in Libya.
