Hippocrepis areolata Desv. / Heterotypic Synonyms: Hippocrepis bicontorta Loisel., it is an annual herb, procumbent to ascending, up to 40 cm long, appressed-pubcscent. Leaflets 5-13, narrowly oblong-obovate to linear, obtuse to truneate at apex, 5-12 x 1-3 mm, peduncles usually longer than the subtending leaves. 2-5-flowered, bracts rudimentary, scarious, triangular. 2-fid. Flowers 4-7 mm long, yellow, purplish-veined. Shortly pedicelled. Calyx almost glabrous. 5-toothed with teeth less than half as long as tube. Corolla twice as long as calyx. Pods up to c. 4 cm long, coiled into one or more rings, almost glabrous to papillose hairy, sinuses opening outside the ring, conspicuously horned with somewhat elongated, ± linear processes at the openings, exceeding the margin of pod, the base of the seed, protuberances reaching the inner margin of the pods. Seeds semicircular. c. 4 x 0.5 mm, smooth, yellowish, brown.  Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Mar-May,   Vern:——————-,   Phytochoria: SA, The native range of this species is N. Africa to S. Iran.    Notes: Wild in Libya.
