Juncus rigidus Desf. / Heterotypic Synonyms: Juncus maritimus var. arabicus Asch. & Buchenau, it is a herb perennial, 0,3-1,5 m tall, rhizome compact, creeping, to 1 cm. Stems terete, hard, cataphylls present. Leaves basal 0,25-1,1 m long, blades terete, 1,5-3 mm. Inflorescence a lax pseudo-lateral panicle with 60-150 heads, each head 2-6-flowered. Tepals uniformly coloured green to straw-yellow (sometimes slightly darker but without darkened midrib). Capsule narrowly trigono-ovoid, 3,5-5 mm long, usually exceeding tepals. Seeds fusiform, 0,5-0,7 mm long with white appendages 0,8-1,2 mm long at each end.  Life Form: H,   Flowering in: Mar-Jul,   Vern: Dees,   Phytochoria: SS+SZ+S.Afr., The native range of this species is Sardegna to S. Pakistan, Africa.   Notes: Wild in Libya.
