Plantago amplexicaulis Cav., it is an annual herb, erect, pubescent, provided with a short stem. Leaves alternate, entire, narrowly lanceolate, attenuated on a sheathing petiole. Very long peduncles (up to 4 times longer than the axillary leaf), erect, ascending or parallel to the soil surface. Terminal spikes, very compact, ovoid to oblong-ovoid. Bracts glabrous, almost orbicular, with a scarious, very wide margin. Corolla with glabrous tube and ovate-lanceolate lobes, also glabrous. Circumcisile capsule with two seeds. Mucilaginous seeds, cymbiform (navicular), with an oblong-elliptical outline, with a convex dorsal surface and a canaliculated ventral surface with the thread arranged towards its middle part. Seed surface somewhat glossy, beige in color (ocher at the level of the cotyledons), alveolate-reticulated, with the pattern only perceptible under high magnification. Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Mar-Jun,   Vern: Alesnab,   Phytochoria: SA+IT, The native range of this species is Canary Islands, S. Spain, S. Italy, N. Africa to Sahara, E. Medit. to S. Iran and Arabian Peninsula.  Notes: Wild in Libya.
