Medicago hypogaea E.Small / Homotypic Synonyms: Factorovskya aschersoniana (Urb.) Eig, it is a small annual prostrate herb, up 10 12 (-15) cm long, glabrous or almost so. Stipules lanceolate, dentate to laciniate below, 2-3 mm long. Leaves 3-foliolate, petiolate. Leaflets obtriangular to obovate, about as long as broad, 2-5 (-6) mm. sharply 2 (-3)-dcntatc on each side, truncate to emarginate, terminal leaflet petiolutate. Flowers yellow, mostly solitary, axillary, pedunculate, peduncles 3-8 mm long, elongating up to c. 10 (-15) mm, in fruit, bract minute, pedicels up to 1 (-1.5) mm long. Calyx c. 2 mm, pilose, teeth small, c. half as long as tube. Corolla often remaining dosed, nearly twice as long as calyx. Ovary cylindrical, stipitate, stipe elongating in fruit and dcflexing to bury the ovary in ground. Pods subterranean. 5-10 x 3-5 mm, (1)-2-seeded. often constricted between the seeds.
