Roemeria sicula (Guss.) Galasso,Banfi,L.Sàez & Bartolucci / Heterotypic Synonyms: Papaver hybridum L., it is an annual herb, erect or sub erect , up to 30 (-50) cm tall, sparsely brunched, usually stiffly hairy with apprised or sub apprised hairs: sap white. Leaves 2-3-pinnatisect with usually linear or linear-oblong, short ultimate segments, up to 20 x 2 (-3) mm, usually bristle-tipped; basal leaves in loose roseate, larger; upper leaves smaller but similar. Flowers 2-5 cm in diam, on (5-) 10-15 (-25) cm long appressedly hispid peduncles. Flower bud (6-) 8-15 x (4-) 6-8 mm, broadly ellipsoid, densely bristly. Petals 10-20 (-25) mm, broadly obovate-sub orbicular, usually pink-red to crimson or scarlet (rarely pink or white) with blackish-violet spot at the base; stamen filaments c. as long as the ovary, slightly thickened above, usually violet with somewhat bluish anthers (c. 1 mm long). Capsules 10-15 x 6-12 mm, sub globose or broadly ovate-globose, densely covered with spreading or ± recurved bristles; stigmatic disc short, much narrower than the capsules, convex with 4-8 stigmatic rays, not or hardly exceeding the disc. Seeds very small, numerlus, grey-brown or black.  Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Feb-Apr,   Vern: Bugraun, Talma,   Phytochoria: MED+IT , The native range of this species is Macaronesia, Medit. to W. Himalaya and Arabian Peninsula.   Notes: Wild in Libya.
