Vicia ervilia (L.) Willd. / Heterotypic Synonyms: Ervilia sativa Link, it is an annual herbaceous species that can reach 50 cm high. Leaves lacking tendrils, very populated with leaflets, up to 14 pairs. Leaflets obovate to oblong-elliptical, obtuse, barely mucronate. Long-pedunculated racemes, shorter than the axillary leaf, few floriferous (1–4 flowers). Calyx with non-gibbous base; teeth equal, subulate, larger than the tube. Corolla small, 6–10 mm long, white, slightly tinged with purple. Pods glabrous, straw-colored, torulous, with 2–4 seeds. Seeds 3.7–4 x 3.8–4.2 x 3.8–4, tetrahedral, smooth, matte, varying from gray to slightly orange as they age. Thread 1–1.2 mm, oval to elliptical, occupying c. 1/12 of the contour of the seed. Lens prominent, amber red, almost black in aged seeds, located at c. 1–2 mm of the thread.  Life Form: Th,   Flowering in: Feb-Jun,   Vern:———,   Phytochoria: MED, The native range of this species is Medit. to Central Asia.    Notes: Introduced in Libya??? , Rare.
