Salvia lanigera Poir., it is a perennial herb with thick woody rootstock. Stem erect, simple, or branched, with short and long eglandular hairs, similar above but with some short capitate glandular hairs or glands. Leaves deeply pinnatisect; lobes irregular, linear, 10 x 5 cm, with eglandular hairs and oil globules. Verticils up to 12. c. 6-tlowered, Floral leaves broadly ovate, acute 4.5 x 4 mm, bracts absent, Pedicels erect, spreading, c. 3 mm. Calyx tubular accrescent in fruit and c. 8 mm long, covered with short capitate glandular hairs. Corolla deep violet or dark purple. Stamens with sterile lower theca. Nutlets black, oblong-trigonus, 1-1.5 x 2-2.5 mm. Life Form: Ch, Flowering in: Jan-Apr, Vern: Sag en naga, Phytochoria: MED+SA, The native range of this species is S. & E. Medit. to W. Iran.
